So today marks the start of the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, which officially opens to the public on Saturday June 4. As part of “Commercial Break,” presented by the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, a Sasha Grey and Lindsey Lohan short film will be played on a giant mobile video screen floating through the center of Venice. Exciting right? Sigh...

I guess the films are intended to be displayed as background, but for Chrissakes this shit is so mundane. The Biennale is supposed to be the nucleus of creativity. This looks like something that belongs in some booth at an FMCG tradeshow. I love both of these women. Especially Sasha. Huge fan of her work. But I find it amazing how Richard Phillips has convinced himself that these videos provide some kind of transcendental experience.
In his interview with W magazine Phillips claims, "I wanted both of my films to really explore the positive trajectory of what their potentials really are, away from what the media has portrayed them and away from what society generally heaps on top of them, obviously for really different reasons and different contexts." Great quote dude. Not even calling him a wanker, but I refuse to be swayed by his lofty statements that his work ignites critical interrogation as it conveys both actresses' deep state of mind at this juncture in their life.

W Magazine describes Sasha's performance as managing to "convey both melancholy and also a sense of evolution." Guys COME ON! There is nothing meaningful going on here, the film doesn't convey anything! It's set to cool-ish music and shot very elegantly, period. Enough with the chicken shit philosophizing.
In a press release on the Lohan project, Phillips says she "holds an existential vulnerability, while harnessing the power of the transcendental—the moment in transition—she is able to connect with us past all of our memory and projection, expressing our own inner eminence."
Its true, Lindsay somehow manages to be more attention grabbing than Sasha in this project, which has nothing to do with the fact that she's wet and nekkers.
Cheers
